When I returned to this particular breakwater this year, I found a whole slew of Cladophora algae piled at the catwalk.

Cladophora is a species of green algae that grows on submerged rocks.
After it dies, it washes up onto the beach and rots. Unfortunately, rotting algae (and any dead animal trapped in it) smells like raw sewage.
