The Shoe of the Ancient Mariner

S30A0831

“God save thee, Ancient Mariner! from the fiends that plague thee thus!
Why lookst thou so?”

“With my crossbow
I SHOT THE ALBATROSS!”

S30A0833

“I closed my lids, and kept them close,
And the balls like pulses beat;
For the sky and the sea, and the sea and the sky
Lay dead like a load on my weary eye,
And the dead were at my feet.”

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Sole #4

S30A0803

Flipping it over:

S30A0804

The Native Americans in the southwest used to make their sandals with patterns on the sole that were unique to each group. Then when they left footprints, others could tell by the sandal impressions which group they were from.

Sole #4 was once an Adidas Santiossage slide, perhaps $29.95.
